Innovation and the general public in contact again! Thanks to the constant progress of the vaccination campaign, “Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition“, the biggest European event dedicated to innovation, promoted and organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, is back on time again this year, but with the great novelty of reopening to the public, in the spaces of the Gazometro Ostiense, from 8 to 10 October. A vibrant and surprising space: a conceptual as well as visual symbol of the desire to innovate, transform and grow. The perfect place to host the 2021 edition of Maker Faire Rome.
The Gazometro area occupies an area of over 12 hectares where Eni – the event’s main partner – is proceeding with the constant recovery of the industrial areas and reclamation work. An area that is set to become an open ecosystem dedicated to new non-emissive business models and the development of entrepreneurial supply chains. It is no coincidence that this perimeter of innovation includes the headquarters of Joule, Eni’s School for Enterprise, created to promote sustainable entrepreneurial training, and “ZERO”, the “clean tech” accelerator of the CDP National Network in which Lventure, ELIS, Acea, Maire Tecnimont and Microsoft also participate. In the same spaces where industrial Rome started extracting gas from coal in the early 20th century to provide energy for industry and the city, technological innovation projects will be set up to contribute to the goals of Agenda 2030.
Since the early 20th century, Ostiense has stood for ‘innovation’, ‘growth’, ‘development’ for the city, and from the city to the world. The Gazometro Ostiense is a testament to that vocation: landmark, iconic and a point of historical, visual and scenic interest, it is undergoing a powerful transformation. Overlooking the banks of the Tiber, it never ceases to amaze tourists and Romans alike with the way it stands out on the city’s horizon and redefines its skyline.
An area of Rome included in eighth place in the ranking of the most promising districts in Europe by the Guardian newspaper in 2020 – the only Italian city represented in the list. Visiting Maker Faire Rome 2021 at the Gazometro Ostiense also means visiting a unique place, with a strongly symbolic meaning, never before opened to the public.
Spaces that will be accessible in maximum security in compliance with the required health protocols, but with visitors who will – once again – be able to admire the many ideas and inventions on display up close at the ninth edition of the event, which is now a consolidated international platform dedicated to Open Innovation, capable of enhancing quality experience and enabling processes of skills transfer.
Moreover, the great success of the 2020 digital edition persuaded the organisers to keep the exhibition online. This is thanks to a dedicated platform that will be divided into several themed channels on the main topics of Maker Faire and a Main channel, always live, from which many stories of innovation will be told. To this end, a real television studio will be set up in the Gazometro, from which national and international figures from the world of innovation will be met and heard live where they work or do experiments.
Innovation remains the absolute star of MFR 2021. Promoting progress through the sharing of ideas by creating a virtuous ecosystem between makers, companies, institutions, schools, universities and research centres is the mission. More than 240 exhibition spaces (stalls and display areas) with innovative ideas, prototypes and projects are ready to be unveiled. The contents offered are many, varied and of very high quality. We are waiting for you!
