Apple TV+ show Tehran has won the ‘Best Drama' award at the 2021 International Emmy Awards.
At the 49th International Emmy Awards, Brian Cox announced that Tehran had won, beating out nominees Aarya, El Presidente, and the BBC's There She Goes.
Tehran first aired on Apple TV+ in September of 2020 and was renewed for a second season, as announced by Apple earlier this year. From Apple:
“Tehran” tells the thrilling story of a Mossad agent who goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission in Tehran that places her and everyone around her in dire jeopardy. The series stars young Israeli actress Niv Sultan (“Flawless,” “She Has It,” “Temporarily Dead”), critically acclaimed actor Shaun Toub (“Homeland,” “Crash”), international star Navid Negahban (“Homeland,” “Legion,” “Aladdin”), Shervin Alenabi (“Baghdad in My Shadow”), Liraz Charhi (“A Late Quartet”) and Menashe Noy (“Big Bad Wolves,” “Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem”).
The Emmy for Tehran is another award in the bank for Apple and its slate of original TV content. The company proudly notes in its press release that Apple Originals have bagged 566 award nominations and 157 wins. The company also says that TV+ has premiered more original hits and gained more award recognitions than any other streaming platform to date.
Last week it emerged Apple had added Jonah Hill to its new biopic about Grateful Dead, with hill playing frontman Jerry Garcia. The project will be directed by Martin Scorcese who is also directing Killers of the Flower Moon on the streaming service. Apple TV+ is available on all of Apple's best iPhones, iPads, Macs, and the Best TVs for Apple TV 2021.
